Research Project
Surface modification and functionalization of cellulose nanocrystals for biomedical applications

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) have potential applications in biomedical field due to their bioactivity, biocompatibility, biodegradability, and low-toxicity. Compared to biomedical materials prepared with inorganic nanoparticles which may contain metal impurities and aggregate easily, CNCs are derived from natural resources, this would allow a prolonged circulation in the bloodstream, rendering the biodegradable and much safer for the environment and human health. My research involves surface modification of CNCs with required functional sites and their applications in biomedical field.
