Research Interests: I am currently a Ph.D. student in Chemical Engineering (Nanotechnology) in University of Waterloo. I received my B.S. and M.A.Sc in Chemical Engineering from University of Tehran and University of Waterloo, respectively. My research interest is polymer-peptide conjugated nanoparticles for drug delivery in cancer therapy. The objective of my research is developing the drug delivery system with affinity of targeting and long circulating in blood stream. I specifically working on synthesizing and characterizing peptide nanoparticles as a cargo for anticancer drugs. I also have detailed studies on cellular uptake and the uptake mechanism of our drug delivery system in cancer cells.

     
 

Wen Xu (Vivian)

Research Interests: RNA interference (RNAi) is a valuable tool for the validation of gene identification and functional genomics. However, they have experienced only limited success in clinical studies due to the poor stability and inability of naked siRNA to translocate through cell membranes. A wide range of materials have been developed toobtain desired capabilities to act as carriers for siRNA, such as lipids, polymers, ceramics and virus vectors. Among which, peptides are of biological origin, which makes them biodegradable and likelyto be biocompatible. My research focuses on studying the possibility to use self-assembling peptide as siRNA carrier. Now we have several promising peptides, which have the potential to become good siRNA carriers.

The main aim of my research is to develop electrolytes with high ionic conductivity, safety, flexibility, mechanical strength and so on.

Research Interests: My research is focused on developing nanobiosensors for glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). HbA1c levels respond to the long-term progression of diabetes without the short-term fluctuations characteristic of glucose. My research objective is to make use of the knowledge and experience of our group in the fabrication and characterization of glucose nanobiosensors based on self-assembling peptide modified electrodes to design and fabricate a sensitive and rapid HbA1c nanobiosensor.
